It has been a difficult 2 nana4weeks for us. Our beloved maternal grandfather passed away on 29th November 2016 in Karachi, Pakistan. He was going to be 83 on 25th December. He leaves behind our dear grandma, 5 children, 13 grandchildren, along with an incredible legacy.

He was in his mid-teens when he emigrated to Pakistan from northern parts of India (Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pardesh) with his family during partition in 1947. He along with his family, left their fully furnished home and set out for Pakistan with huge dreams for what he envisaged Pakistan to offer and the country they were going to build.

He started working from mid-teens to help his family and worked his way into banking and retired as a senior advisor for a bank in Pakistan. If he wasn’t a banker, he would have been a solicitor… or even a doctor.

He was our champion, an incredible man, full of courage and optimism for what life had to offer. He made the most of every experience and did things with class.

Out of our respect and love for him, we wanted to share 12 lessons that we learned from him. These are…nana3

  1. Have complete faith in whatever you do and just GO and DO IT…
  2. Don’t give up until you get to your desired result and most importantly don’t settle for less…
  3. Don’t be limited by the mould the society wants you to be in…
  4. Be yourself and be authentic, but dare to be different…
  5. Be OUTSTANDING in whatever you do and do it with your heart…
  6. Network, network, network. You can never have too many contacts…
  7. Learn, learn, learn! Whatever you can, whenever you can. Age must be no barrier (He learned how to use computer at the age of 78 so we could Skype with him & exchange emails) …
  8. Look for opportunities to help others in need, regardless of who they are and where they come from. Help them whether they need a job or whether they need to solve a business / legal issue or health issues…
  9. Be fearless and do the right thing with integrity…
  10. Stand up for yourself and what you believe in. Back yourself at every step of the way…
  11. Don’t die with your music still in you
  12. Help, even those who are on the other side of the fence and at odds with you (in other words, “be the bigger person”)

Being the oldest grandchildren we were spoilt and we knew we were loved. It’s natural to be sad when losing a loved one…

Reflecting on his life and how he would do things, we realised that we have approached our real estate journey with the same fearlessness and commitment, never having taken NO for an answer to our dreams. Our 11-year-old cousin pointed out that he was an incredible male role model for us and someone we look up to and that’s the truth.

We have vowed to take our grandfather’s legacy forward – in particular to assist others, to the best of our abilities wherever we can, with integrity and authenticity with both property and otherwise.

Our grandfather will always be a part of us and live through us. We will miss him and love him till eternity.

Wish you the best with your property journey.

Sincerely,

The Property Twins

Thank you Kim. Our grandfather was incredible. With any dilemma we just wonder what would he have done…….He would have said, just go and do it and that you CAN do it! He had guts!
